About This Course

What do new players in the veterinary care space like Walmart, Petco, and Lowes mean for vet med professionals? Many local clinics assume the answer is: "not a lot." But as Big Box retailers enter the veterinary care space, there is an increasing trend for pet owners to perceive vet care as a commodity. Clients expect commodities to be cheap and interchangeable; everything pet care shouldn't be.

Learning Objectives

  • What "commodification" means for service providers and examples of what it looks like in the vet med space
  • How clinics can thrive despite Big Box retailers offering veterinary care
  • Creating a different expectation of what care is in the era of Internet searching
  • What factors contribute to cultivating a clientele that perceives care as a priority for their pet's health and well-being, and not as a commodity

Certification Requirements

Students must complete the video lesson and also pass a short multiple-choice quiz with a score of 70% or higher.
